Helping develop skills for a
brighter future.
Supporting education.
The Spring of Hope School is a US-registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Our mission is to support educational success for the children in Svay Khleang and to increase their opportunities to overcome entrenched generational poverty. As a free English language study and computer literacy Educational Resource Center, with a focus on the Cham minority children and youth, the program incentivizes families to keep children in school longer. The school serves 250 students in two English classrooms, 40 students in one computer room and the community at large in the library. We hope that the project will serve as a model for similar programs in rural areas throughout Cambodia.
In Cambodia, less than 5% of the rural population graduates high school.
Spring of Hope School (SOHS) seeks to change this by offering scholarships to students who are successful in their primary school education and are pushing themselves to continue to secondary school.
We take great care in choosing the students for the scholarships, taking into consideration the student’s grades, attendance, their level of motivation, the family’s level of support, the ability of the other members of the family to make up lost income, the general stability of the family and many other components that make up a student’s ability to overcome obstacles to their graduation. This selection process happens as the students have completed SOHS’s Pre-intermediate class and enter Grade 12 at their primary school.
Connecting students globally.
We are excited to share our new SOHS Pen Pal Program! Our goal is to provide an opportunity for SOHS students to practice their written English and to foster cross-cultural exchanges among students in Cambodia and the U.S. (perhaps creating lifelong friendships as well!). The program will also provide an opportunity for students to learn about history, beliefs, socio-economics, aspirations, anthropology, etc.
Get Involved.
With the current global health concerns in mind, we have paused our volunteer program for the moment.
I love the Spring of Hope School because it has changed my life. My future will become bright because of your support.”
